New US-Jordan Agreement Enhances Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations

by admin477351

The United States and Jordan have embarked on a new trade agreement designed to enhance economic ties, lower trade barriers, and open up new business ventures for companies in both nations. As part of this agreement, Jordan will maintain duty-free entry for the majority of American products, while both countries commit to resolving logistical and trade challenges that could hinder the smooth exchange of goods.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer highlighted that this deal is a testament to President Donald Trump’s initiative to strengthen economic and strategic alliances in the Middle East, with the goal of expanding market opportunities for American exporters. Meanwhile, Yarub Qudah, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, noted that although Jordanian exports to the US will incur a 10 percent tariff, American exports will continue to enjoy exemption under the existing free-trade framework. This move is anticipated to foster increased investment between the two nations.

The foundation for this partnership was laid with the signing of a free-trade agreement between the US and Jordan in 2001, marking Jordan as the first Arab nation to establish such a relationship with Washington. By 2010, all duties under this agreement were abolished, paving the way for more seamless trade interactions.

According to US government data, trade between the two countries reached $5.34 billion in 2025. Jordan’s main exports to the United States include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones. On the other side, Jordan’s significant import partners feature countries like China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
