In a gripping showdown at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, India successfully defended their men’s cricket title at the Asian Games with a 19-run victory over Pakistan. This triumph extends India’s dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals and adds another gold medal to their collection.

India set the pace early on, posting a formidable total of 211/6 after opting to bat first. The innings was powered by an explosive start from Abhishek Sharma, who hit a rapid half-century, propelling India to their highest Powerplay score of 81/2 against Pakistan in T20Is. However, Pakistan’s bowlers mounted a strong comeback during the middle overs, with Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed taking crucial wickets to curb India’s momentum.

The late innings saw Tilak Varma deliver a decisive performance, scoring an unbeaten 51 off just 22 balls. His partnership with Shivam Dube, who contributed 27 runs, was instrumental in pushing India’s total past the 200-run mark, setting Pakistan a challenging target of 212 runs to win.

Pakistan’s response was robust, led by Hasan Nawaz, who smashed an unbeaten 96 off 51 balls. His 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub put significant pressure on the Indian bowlers. However, the Indian bowling attack regained control in the latter stages of the match. Washington Sundar bowled an excellent 18th over that disrupted Pakistan’s momentum, and Jasprit Bumrah applied further pressure with a tight penultimate over.

With Pakistan requiring 33 runs from the final over, India maintained their composure. Shivam Dube successfully defended the last six balls, securing the 19-run victory for India.
