Led by Oman’s Minister of Information, Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, the proposal focuses on enhancing media coordination and protecting regional unity.

The initiative seeks to establish a common framework for cooperation among relevant authorities within GCC nations, addressing the challenges posed by misleading, offensive, and harmful content on both traditional media and digital platforms. The proposal underscores the importance of improving the monitoring and documentation of such violations, promoting accountability, and supporting legal action aligned with each member state’s national laws.

During the meeting, the ministers emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to safeguard regional security and stability. They called on media organizations, journalists, and social media users to ensure the accuracy of information by relying on official sources and avoiding the dissemination of misleading or offensive material that could harm relations among Gulf countries.

Additional discussions at the meeting highlighted the necessity of strengthening cooperation between Gulf media institutions and adapting to rapid advancements in digital media and artificial intelligence. The Information Ministers underlined the critical role of official media in promoting public awareness, delivering accurate information, and showcasing the region’s development achievements.

The gathering reiterated the importance of coordinated Gulf media efforts in tackling emerging digital challenges, protecting shared interests, and reinforcing ties among the peoples of GCC member states. By proposing these unified guidelines, Oman aims to bolster the collective ability of GCC countries to address and mitigate the impact of harmful social media content.
