Oman is set to make its mark on the international athletics stage by hosting its first World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting on September 5. This event, a significant achievement for the country’s athletics scene, will unfurl at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex located in Bausher, Muscat. The Oman Athletics Grand Prix, as it is called, is anticipated to draw the participation of around 300 athletes hailing from nearly 40 countries spanning Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The competition will showcase a diverse array of track-and-field events, providing athletes with the opportunity to earn valuable World Athletics ranking points. For the local Omani athletes, this will be an invaluable chance to compete with international peers, allowing them to gain experience and exposure at a higher level of competition.

The Oman Athletics Association has high hopes for the Grand Prix, envisioning it as an annual fixture that will establish Muscat as a regular host city on the international athletics circuit. The organizers are optimistic that the event will play a crucial role in the development of not just athletes, but also coaches, officials, and sports administrators within the region.

Moreover, the organizers see the Grand Prix as an opportunity to bolster sports tourism in Oman, while simultaneously fostering stronger international sporting ties. By consistently hosting such events, Oman aims to put itself on the map as a key destination for athletics, leveraging the competition to support broader goals of sports development and international collaboration.
