During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Oman emphasized its commitment to resolving international conflicts through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful negotiations. Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, highlighted the essential role of dialogue in building trust and addressing global crises, while advocating for the respect of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.
Of particular concern was the impact of regional conflicts on the security and trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reiterated Oman’s dedication to ensuring safe navigation in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Oman urged all involved parties to exercise restraint and to seek solutions through political negotiations, reaffirming its solidarity with neighboring Gulf countries in maintaining their security and sovereignty.
Addressing the ongoing crisis in Yemen, Oman reiterated its support for a political resolution that upholds the nation’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. Al Busaidi called for cooperation among all parties to achieve a settlement that respects the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people, while also supporting reconstruction and development efforts within the country.
Oman also expressed its condemnation of continued Israeli actions affecting Palestinians and reaffirmed its endorsement of Palestinian rights. The nation supports the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, in alignment with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Oman has been active in promoting tolerance and countering hate speech through initiatives such as the Muscat Plan, working in coordination with the United Nations.
Furthermore, the foreign minister underscored Oman’s dedication to sustainable development, as outlined in Oman Vision 2040. This plan includes initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
